The David Chapman Agency was founded in 1937 by David Chapman, a farmer looking to supplement his income from the farm, and provide valuable coverage for owners of farms and automobiles in the area. David was one of the first seven agents to represent The Farm bureau Insurance Company which became The Concord Group Insurance Company in the 1950's.

David was the town treasurer, replacement U.S. mail driver, and an agent for Concord Group Insurance Company. All these he ran from his farm on Route 1 in Damariscotta, Maine. In 1957 David moved his business to a new location on Elm Street. Twenty five years later he sold the agency and the Western Auto store he owned to his daughter Mary, and her husband, John Gallagher. John and Mary Gallagher operated both businesses until 2002 when they sold the auto parts business and concentrated on operating the insurance agency. John and Mary’s daughter Sarah joined the agency in 2004 as a part time agent. Sarah will become the third generation to run The David Chapman Agency.
