Since 1937, The David Chapman Insurance Agency has served Damariscotta and Lincoln County, Maine’s need for Home, auto and Commercial insurance. Our products include homeowners insurance, auto insurance, renters insurance, commercial and business policies as well as personal umbrellas.
Being a local, three-generation family agency, we pride ourselves in knowing and serving multiple generations of our customers families. It is our philosophy to create a relationship with all our customers, so we can provide them with the best solution for their insurance needs.
The David Chapman Agency was founded by it’s originator , David Chapman in 1937. David, a farmer looking to supplement his income from the family farm, and provide valuable coverage of owners of farms and automobiles in the area, was one of the first seven agents to represent The Farm Bureau Insurance Company, which became The Concord Group Insurance Company in the 1950's.

David was the town treasurer, replacement U.S. Mail driver, and an agent for The Concord Group Insurance Company. All these he ran from his farm on Route 1 in Damariscotta, Maine. In 1957 he moved his business to a new location on Elm Street, then to include opening the Western Auto store he ran. Twenty five years later he sold the store and Insurance Agency to his daughter Mary, and her husband, John Gallagher. John and Mary Gallagher operated both businesses until 2002 when they sold the auto parts business and concentrated on operating the insurance agency. John and Mary’s daughter Sarah joined the agency in 2004 as a part time agent. In mid-2012, Sarah became the third generation to run The David Chapman Agency.
